Playdate

Ollie had a playdate with Fish today! We went to my cousin's house for dinner and I decided it was time Fish and Ollie got to know each other. It's hard to say what they thought of each other... Ollie just ran away. I don't blame him because Fish is bigger and buffer than he is. Don't mind my creepy excited face as I was holding both of them. Fish is the one with the black nose, Ollie has a brown nose... Fish has more white on his back than Ollie (not that you can really see their backs).


I love Fish's black nose... it's big and beautiful just like a puppy. Awwww....

The Ball

Oliver got a ball to run around in, but he hasn't quite figured out that it's supposed to be fun. He just sits inside and pees and poops and tries to scratch himself. When he scratches himself the ball starts to wiggle and roll. We've tried it twice so far without success, but maybe tomorrow will be better!

I'm thinking about making some fleece liners for his cage instead of the wood shavings that are in there right now. He really likes to dig and burrow, so I'll need to figure out a way for him to still do that. This will be a lot cheaper too!

Oliver is getting bigger!! I really need to post some new pictures sometime!!

Ollie's Presents

Ollie loves worms. Absolutely loves them. We bought some teeny worms at the store that are currently sitting in our refrigerator. Gross to me, delicious to him. It's so funny when he licks them up because he makes this crunchy/slimy chewing noise.

We got Ollie some furnishings for his cage. It's a black plastic tube with three openings... I don't know how to describe it. Today after we cleaned his cage we put it in with some t-shirt pieces and he's been sleeping in it ever since. He used to sleep underneath his fleece sleeping bag, so now it's going to be pretty hard to wake him up in the evening when it's play time.

Ollie has been having some visitors!! My mom, sisters, brothers in law, and a friend have all come to see him with only one person getting majorly pooped on. I think that is definitely a success!!

Exploring!

Ollie loves his hedgehog food and he does NOT like bananas. Good to know. I need to go get him some mealworms as a little snack. He also enjoys drinking out of a bowl. He hasn't quite understood the water bottle thing, but I like to have it in there just in case he knocks over his water bowl and gets thirsty.


He also loves this little crocheted bowl I made. He likes to curl up inside or flip it over and sleep underneath it.

This was my first attempt at holding him on his back. I wanted him to curl up in a ball, but I don't think he liked it very much.

Perfect Timing!

Oliver (aka Ollie) is a hedgehog that joined our family at the perfect time (he's on the left, and his brother is on the right). I was planning on driving an hour or two to go look at some other hedgehogs on Friday night, but Ollie appeared in the online listing Thursday night and was really close by. I drove the mile or two to his home with my sister and spent 20 minutes trying to decide which hedgie to bring home. That decision was tough!! Ollie was dubbed the explorer so I decided he would work well in our family. Luckily I had already purchased a cage and some supplies so he was ready to go. Around midnight that night he woke up and ran all over his cage exploring.
